About College

Ajara Mahavidyalaya Ajara was started in the form of B.Com. Part I class in 1982. In 1983 we started B.A. Part I and in 1993 B.Sc.Part I. Vocational wing was started at +2 level in 1993.

The college classes were conducted then in the premises of the Ajara High School Ajara and the college library was in a small room of 10’x10’ with the Librarian’s office in the same room.

The office and the staff used to be in the equally small rooms. There was one typewriter common between the High School and the College.

Today we have our independent college premises , Separate new well equipped library, laboratories, A.C. Computer section equipped with internet, e-mail, fax etc., new big building of class rooms and a good play ground. We have purchased a piece of land adjoining our premises for future plans. Moreover the Management is making every effort to purchase additional land in order to cope up with the changing developments.

Our college has received the permanent affiliation of the university for all the subjects of Arts and Commerce faculties and is also enlisted by the UGC under section 12B and 2F in 1989. The Science wing was started in 1993 in the form of B.Sc. part I class on non-grant basis and we have obtained the permanent affiliation of the Shivaji University to all the Science subjects from 1999.  Moreover in our case the permanent affiliations were granted when the University affiliation conditions were very rigid and not as flexible as they are today.

Weekly Prayer - Our best practice

Right from the inception of this college (from 1982) the system of Weekly Prayer has been continued up to this day. Here what is significant is that the constitution of Ajara town is of cosmopolitan nature. In order to ensure the communal & religious harmony and national integration, our Weekly Prayer is none else but the national anthem. A small write-up under the heading of contemplation (Chintan), either by a student or by a teacher, of about three minutes duration, at the time of each Weekly Prayer (Thursday) has been the another significant feature of the Weekly Prayer. The third feature of the Weekly Prayer from the administrative point of view is its remarkable communicative value. Since management is communication, we use this device of a Weekly Prayer to a very great extent for the purpose of administration. Another very significant feature of it is its utility for the inculcation of moral values, discipline among the students and providing incentives and encouragement to the student community for their achievements in the different spheres of student activity.

Joint Consultation, Planning and Implementation

Joint consultation, planning and implementation in the joint meetings of the Management & the staff, held regularly and from time to time, is a distinctive characteristic of our functioning. It is clearly demonstrated by the fact that all our decisions during the last 35/20 years have been unanimous & sometimes after long discussions. Because of these reasons our institution is free from court cases & such other matters.

Teamwork

Teamwork by the joint efforts of the Management, teaching and the non-teaching staff and the students is another distinctive feature of our college. The organization of the Zonal Sports & District level Youth Festival of the Shivaji University, Kolhapur at a time (2000) is one of the examples in this context. We had won the prestigious Athletics Zonal Championship and had also demonstrated our merit in the District level Youth Festival at that time. The then Vice-Chancellor, Prof. D.N.Dhanagare had specially congratulated us for our teamwork in the organization of both the events at a time. The Athletics Championship was really an illustration of the Students’ teamwork also. The teamwork is reflected in our Annual Social Gathering of each year. We use Annual Social Gathering deliberately as a significant part of the educational process to ensure

Students’ participation in the collective activities, various competitions and cultural programmes.

1. To provide opportunities to the students to develop the leadership qualities.
2. To impart moral values.
3. To strengthen the college- community relationship.
4. To strengthen staff- students interaction.
5. To present an image of the college to the people and to receive feedback from them.

It is to be noted that we organize the Annual Social Gathering in a traditional way even today. More than five thousand people form different villages in the vicinity of Ajara (including the parents, well- wishers, donors, officers from Gos and NGOs and a large number of village people) attend the Variety Entertainment Programme of our Annual Social Gathering. This special feature of our Annual Social Gathering is to be viewed in the context of the fact that most of the colleges in the State of Maharashtra have stopped to organize the Annual Social Gathering in a traditional way.

Discipline:

The discipline of the students is very carefully maintained. As a result of which we do not hitherto have any incident of roudism, ragging, drug addiction, tobacco consumption, indiscipline- either in the classrooms or in the functions & especially at the time of examinations (internal and University examinations), students’ elections & Annual Social Gathering. The authorities of the Shivaji Univerisity have recognized & appraised the smooth conduct of the University examinations in our college.

Self Criticism

Before the introduction of NAAC’s process of self-assessment, we have been exercising a typical method of self-evaluation in the following way. In the joint meetings of the staff & the Management, in the LMC meetings, in the staff meetings, in the meetings of the Students’ Council, at the time of the Weekly Prayer, in the meetings of the sub- committees, in the meetings of the parents, and in the dialogue with the University authorities, we consciously consider our aims, objectives, plans, the programmes of implementation and their results. Often our self-criticism is rigorous & fruitful. It is clearly published in our Annual magazine & especially in the editorial and the Principal’s ‘Prologue’.

Keeping pace with the Time

Since the inception of the B.Com.I class in 1982, the college has been expanding its fields of operation up to this day. B.Com.I –1982, B.A.I- 1983, B.A.III English (Special)- 1988, B.Sc.I- 1993, M.C.V.C.-1993, Y.C.M.O.U.-1995 and Rural Journalism- 2002. Apart from these,our attempts to start UGC vocational courses (1996) and Graduation++ Course by SEED(2002) are also significant in this context. This indicates the constant & sincere efforts of the college to keep pace with the changing scenario. Present Physical facilities and Infrastructure

Perspective Plan  For The Academic Year 2022-2023 To 2031-2032

Introduction

The College has prepared a Perspective Plan for the period of Ten years commencing form academic year 2022-2023, based on the report of the NAAC peer team visit in January, 2020 considering the goals and objectives of the institution, needs of society, trends in higher education, thrust areas of the UGC, NAAC core values, enhancing employability of the students, and sustenance of value based quality education to students.In the preparation of the Perspective Plan, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college has played a major role. Inputs from stakeholders, their expectations, management policies, goals and objectives of the college are the base for formulation of the perspective plan. Also, the quality indicators of seven criteria are considered while preparing the Perspective Plan. 

The IQAC plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the quality of the institution and suggests quality measures. Feedback from the stakeholders and the recommendations of the IQAC are taken into consideration while the Perspective Plan. Feedback from the stakeholders, participation of students in social activities and in teaching learning process, use of ICT are some of the measures implemented for quality sustenance.

The draft of Perspective Plan has been discussed, reviewed and approved in the College Development Committee and Board of Executives/Directors of Janata Education Society, Ajara.

Activities/ Actions Planned

1. To promote participation of teachers in online faculty development and skill development uses, educational modules, e-content development, innovative teaching-learning technology.
2. To develop research temparament amongst students by organizing training workshops on research, allotting field works, projects and participation on research competitions like AVISHKAR.
3. To increase the participation of teachers in research conferences, paper presentation activities, publication of research papers in UGC Care listed/PEER reviewed research journals , submission of major and minor research proposals, etc.
4. To apply for recognitions of research laboratories of the institute.
5. To provide a discussion forum for teachers’ interaction and exchange of their ideas through the actrivity of Teachers Study Forum.
6. To strengthen training and placement cell.
7.  To organize career counselling sessions and to establish incubation centre.
8. To sign MoUs with academic institutes, industries and non-governmental organizations.
9. To organize programs on cross cutting issues like gender equity, ethics and inclusive practices in association with universities, alumni association, NGOs and other allied bodies.
10.  To establish and strengthen Alumni Association to get their support in college development.
11. To motivate students to get admission for higher education and educational qualifier examinations namely NET,SET,GATE, etc

Academic Audit 

The college proposes to conduct academic audit regarding its performance in academic, curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular sphere. The audit will be conducted by Internal or external agencies and action will be initiated on their recommendations.

With a view to execute curricula effectively, we will obtain feedback from students and other stakeholders.

• We obtain the feedback on curriculum from the stakeholders and we will communicate to concerned authorities for revision and restructuring of curriculum.

• Valuable suggestions of parents will be invited on curriculum, teaching-learning process and activities of the college and these suggestions will be taken into account for improvement in the concerned college policies.

College will provide easy access to the internet in the Campus, Classrooms and Reading hall, to strengthen the learning habit of students and teachers, to lead towards the quality enhancement. We will subscribe additional journals, periodicals for enriching the reading resources

The academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities for the academic year will be planned in academic calendar before the commencement of every academic year.

Enhancing students’ participation in social activities.

The college plans to form a special cell of students for social activities. The objective of this is to create social awareness amongst the students and to have their participation in social activities of the college.
